Vietnam’s Agricultural Exports: Massive Potential & Breakthrough Opportunities Worldwide

Amid global economic fluctuations, Vietnam’s agricultural exports have continued to record impressive growth figures, affirming their position and opening up numerous opportunities to make breakthroughs in international markets.

1. Outstanding Potential from a Diverse Agricultural Base

Vietnam is blessed with a tropical monsoon climate, diverse ecosystems, and vast agricultural land. This enables the country to produce a wide range of high-quality crops with world-leading output, such as:

  • Rice: Consistently ranked among the world’s Top 2–3 rice exporters.
  • Coffee: The world’s leading producer and exporter of Robusta coffee.
  • Cashew nuts: Vietnam has been the world’s largest exporter of processed cashew nuts for many consecutive years.
  • Fruits and vegetables: Mango, durian, lychee, longan, and other tropical fruits are steadily expanding their presence in markets such as China, Japan, South Korea, and Europe.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry, and fishery export turnover reached nearly USD 27 billion in the first half of 2025, up 14% year-on-year. Agricultural products accounted for more than 50% of this figure, with stable double-digit growth across several key categories.

2. Opportunities to Break Through Thanks to Deep Integration and New Consumer Trends

Vietnam has joined 16 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including next-generation FTAs such as EVFTA, CPTPP, and UKVFTA. These agreements provide tariff incentives, reduce trade barriers, and facilitate access to high-demand, high-standard markets such as the EU, the UK, Canada, and Japan.

At the same time, global consumption trends are shifting significantly:

  • Demand for green, safe, and organic products is surging.
  • Deep-processed agricultural products are increasingly favored to serve modern supply chains.
  • Emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa are opening up new growth potential for rice, coffee, cashew nuts, and more.
  • These trends present a golden opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in technology, modernize production, expand scale, and enhance value-added output.

3. Strategic Directions for Vietnamese Agribusinesses

To fully leverage these opportunities, experts recommend that enterprises focus on four key areas:

Upgrade quality and traceability:
Adopt international certifications such as GlobalG.A.P, Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and HACCP to meet stringent food safety and sustainability requirements.

Invest in deep processing and modern preservation:
Apply advanced drying, freezing, and vacuum-packaging technologies to increase product value, reduce post-harvest losses, and extend shelf life.

Maximize FTA advantages:
Master rules of origin and standardize trade documentation to benefit from tariff preferences and faster customs clearance.

Build international branding:
Develop brand identity, strengthen digital marketing, and participate in global exhibitions to enhance reputation and expand market presence.

4. Outlook: Breaking Through to Reach Global Scale

Experts forecast that between 2025 and 2030, Vietnam’s agricultural export turnover could reach USD 60–65 billion annually if growth momentum is maintained and enterprises continue to innovate and fully leverage FTAs.

Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the International Cooperation Department (MARD), stated:

“Global markets are wide open for Vietnamese agricultural products. The key is for businesses to actively improve quality, promote deep processing, ensure green–clean standards, and build strong brands to conquer high-value markets.”

5.  A Golden Opportunity for Vietnamese Agriculture

In the context of a global focus on sustainable development, Vietnamese agriculture enjoys a dual advantage: robust production capacity and unprecedented opportunities for deeper integration. Businesses that quickly adapt, invest strategically, and enhance product quality are poised to make a breakthrough and elevate Vietnam’s agricultural brand on the world stage.

👉 Now is the time for Vietnam’s agriculture sector to accelerate and achieve even greater milestones.
